Plaintiffs across the country have filed lawsuits claiming JUUL, an e-cigarette manufacturer, has deceptively marketed its product to teens and young adults. JUUL devices have a sleek design that contains nicotine-based liquid available in a variety of colors and flavors, which can be an attractive option to kids and teens.

Exploding E-Cig Cases

In addition to potentially causing these serious lung conditions, e-cigarettes pose another risk. There are reports of vaping devices seemingly exploding spontaneously, causing severe injury and even death to users. As many as 2,000 explosions were reported between 2015 and 2017, and oftentimes users are unaware of the danger.

Despite the numerous reports of vaping-related lung damage, JUUL announced in September of 2019 it would continue running an ongoing ad campaign called “Make the Switch,” encouraging smokers to switch from traditional cigarettes to the JUUL device. Is JUUL a Safer Alternative?

JUUL pods contain liquid that becomes vapor. Thus, smoking e-cigarettes is often referred to as “vaping,” which may be no safer than cigarettes. In fact, news outlets report hundreds of teens have been hospitalized due to vaping-related lung illnesses. Deaths have also been reported in California, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, and Oregon.
