How Many Takata Airbag Deaths Have There Been?

As of May 2024, there have been a reported 27 deaths and more than 400 injuries according to Consumer Reports and the NHTSA. A total of 67 million airbags have been recalled in an estimated 42 million U.S. vehicles across the 19 different automakers. As of April 2024, the NHTSA reports that only 88 percent of the faulty airbags have been repaired or replaced which still leaves millions of people at risk for these faulty products. 

The vehicle models flagged by NHTSA as “extreme risk” are certain 2001-2003 Honda and Acura models containing “alpha” airbags. In addition, the 2006 Ford Ranger, the 2006 Mazda B-Series pickup truck, and the 1999 BMW 323i and 328i are also on the extreme risk list.
