What is uninsured motorist coverage?

Uninsured Motorist Coverage (UM) is insurance that you can purchase on your own policy to protect you if the person who injures you in a car accident has little or no insurance coverage. Florida law does not require drivers to purchase insurance coverage to pay for bodily injury they cause to others in car accidents! There are a surprising number of people who have no Bodily Injury Coverage (BI) or very minimal limits. Uninsured Motorist coverage will protect you if you are injured by a driver who carries little or no insurance – you can make a claim against your own UM policy for your injuries and medical bills. While UM coverage may cost you in the short term – if you ever need it, you will be sure glad that you have it!  Read more about the different insurance coverages and how to protect yourself (Insurance Coverages)
