JANUVIA And BYETTA Linked To Pancreatic Cancer

A recent study suggests that the diabetes drugs JANUVIA and BYETTA may raise the risk of both pancreatitis an pancreatic cancer. Although the links between these diabetes drugs and pancreatic cancer are not conclusive, they merit further investigation according to the researchers. Januvia (sitagliptin) and Byetta (exenatide), an injectable drug, are a new way of treating type 2 diabetes. The study was recently published in the journal Gastroenterology (07/11) and used 2004-2009 information in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s database on adverse events reported by doctors.

There are currently a substantial number of lawsuits against the manufacturer, Merck & Co, pending in the US Federal Court system with allegations of product liability, negligence, and failure to warn.
