Lawsuit filed against FDA over presence of gluten in prescription, OTC medicines.

The Wall Street Journal (3/18, Silverman, 5.67M) “Pharmalot” blog reports that a celiac disease patient has sued the FDA for not properly creating rules to regulate the presence of gluten in prescription medicines. The blog notes that there is no official tally for how many medicines contain gluten, but a list managed by Steve Plogsted, a nutrition support pharmacist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, shows that gluten is found in more than 150 prescription and over-the-counter medicines.
