Federal Judge Appointed in Xarelto Lawsuits

As you may have heard, the anticoagulant drug, Xarelto, has been linked to serious internal bleeding injuries, including death, that have spawned numerous lawsuits against the manufacturer. Due to the large number of plaintiffs filing lawsuits against the manufacturer of the drug, a hearing was held in December 2014 in Charleston, South Carolina before the Judicial Panel on Multi-District Litigation (MDL) to request that a federal judge be appointed to oversee all these lawsuits and the many more lawsuits that are expected to be filed.

An MDL was subsequently set-up in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana to oversee all of these Xarelo lawsuits. The purpose of the MDL is to aide and simplify in the discovery process and consolidate the issues that all the Xarelo plaintiffs have in common. Since each plaintiff suffered unique injuries, each lawsuit remains its own lawsuit, unlike in a class action setting.
