One of the major side effects of fluoroquinolone antibiotics is that they can cause peripheral neuropathy, or nerve damage. Peripheral neuropathy is damage to the nerves that send information to and from the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. Fluoroquinolone Side Effects & Complications:

In August 2013 , the FDA strengthened its warning that fluoroquinolone antibiotics may cause sudden, serious, and potentially permanent nerve damage. Peripheral neuropathy symptoms will generally start within a few days of starting the antibiotic.

In July 2016, The FDA determined that fluoroquinolones should be reserved solely for patients with no other treatment options for acute bacterial sinusitis (ABS), acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (ABECB), and uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI) due to the high risk of serious side effects.
