Accidents on motorized vehicles can be especially devastating. Without the protection a typical automobile provides, injuries are often severe. If you have been hit by a careless driver while driving a motorized scooter, contact an experienced, trustworthy lawyer to help you.
Scooter and Moped Accidents
In Florida, many people elect to drive electric scooters and mopeds rather than a traditional vehicle. They are easy to park, they get good gas mileage, and they are fun to drive. Unfortunately, they can also be dangerous. Distracted drivers make poor choices. If you were hit on a scooter or moped, consult with an experienced lawyer. Whether you were driving a scooter or a passenger on one, our attorneys will talk you through your legal rights after an accident.
Bird, Lime, Veo, and Razor Scooter Injuries
Electric scooter sharing is a new take on ride sharing. Similar to the old-school Razor scooters, Lime, Bird, and similar scooter companies have hit cities across the nation, offering an affordable way to get around town. In fact, downtown Tampa is one of the next cities expected to test an electric scooter sharing pilot program. However, there are risks associated with these programs.
A Fort Lauderdale mother has sued Lime after her daughter was severely injured on a Lime Scooter. She says the scooter’s app clearly instructs people not to drive on local sidewalks, thus pushing them onto the street. However, Florida law states operating scooters on the street is illegal. Unfortunately, the rider was following Lime’s instructions and was hit by a car and gravely injured. An attorney for the family states that scooter riders are not only getting hit by cars, but they are also hitting pedestrians by following Lime’s instructions.
Other riders claim their Lime scooters have caught fire and even broken in half. Were you injured on a Bird scooter, Lime scooter, or other electric scooter? Consider consulting with a lawyer who specializes in personal injury law in Florida.
What If I Was Hit On a Scooter?
If you were hit on a scooter, you will likely need to seek immediate medical attention! If you are able to safely move out of harm’s way, you should do so and immediately call police. Do not admit fault in the accident. Take photos if possible, and obtain the other driver’s license plate number and insurance information. Once you have completed the above items, contact an experienced accident attorney who can advise you of your legal rights. As soon as the accident is reported, the insurance companies will start working to pay you as little as possible. Make sure your rights are protected.

Scooters Arrive in St. Petersburg
As of October 2020, downtown St. Pete now has scooters available to rent. As part of a pilot program for the city, riders can pick up an electric VeoRide or Razor scooter at one of 100 corrals. Generally it costs around $0.30 per minute to operate the scooter, and $1 to unlock the ride. Our hope is that downtown drivers will be vigilant in looking out for scooter riders. Likewise, riders must be aware of their surroundings.
