Benicar Side Effects

High Blood Pressure Medicine, Benicar, linked to excessive weight loss, chronic diarrhea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal side effects.

Benicar (olmesartan medoxomil) is part of a family of blood pressure drugs sold by Daiichi Sankyo.  The drugs, including Benicar HTC, Azor and Tribenzor, all carry a risk of Benicar sprue-like enteropathy.  Sprue-like enteropathy is a condition that causes symptoms similar to those of celiac disease and may take months or years to develop and may require hospitalization.

The Ruth Law Team is currently investigating serious side effects of taking Benicar, Tribenzor, Azor and Benicar HTC.  Some of these serious Benicar side effects include chronic diarrhea, dehydration and weight loss.

The link between Benicar and enteropathy was first uncovered in 2012, when researchers at the Mayo Clinic found that over a three-year period, 22 patients taking Benicar displayed symptoms suggestive of celiac disease, however, blood tests for the patients did not support the diagnosis.  When patients stopped taking the drug, their GI symptoms improved.  Further studies have linked the active ingredient in Benicar to an additional 40 cases of sprue-like enteropathy.

Side Effects:

  • Chronic Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Excessive Weight Loss
  • Misdiagnosed Celiac Disease
  • Dehydration and Malnutrition
  • Immune System Problems

Product Liability lawyers across the country are working to create a consolidated federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) due to the growing number of Benicar lawsuits.  The MDL would centralize all the Benicar lawsuits before one judge for the purpose of coordinated pretrial proceedings and to ease discovery issues.  The makers of Benicar strongly oppose this MDL and are fighting to block its creation.

If you or a family member has been diagnosed with this condition or experienced side effects similar to celiac disease while taking Benicar, the Ruth Law Team is here to discuss your potential case with you.  Please feel free to call us today at 1-888-783-8378 to speak to an attorney.
